How LICU compares to other Colleges

It is Doctor Pateman’s privilege to make all LICU courses available at great scholarship discounts, to enable as many students as possible to benefit from the life-changing curriculum. In this context we would like to make students aware of the savings compared to other universities in their respective countries.

Europe

When comparing current scholarship discounts/tuition rates to other schools and colleges in Europe for example, the website masterportal.eu published an article on “Tuition Fees at Universities in Europe in 2017” and lists the average tuition fee for a Bachelor’s degree in Europe between €4,500/year for EU students and €8,600/year for students outside EU.

The average tuition fee for Master’s degree in Europe is listed at €5,100/year for EU students and €10,170/year for students outside EU (www.mastersportal.eu/articles/405/tuition-fees-at-universities-in-europe-in-2017-overview-and-comparison.html).

In comparison to which, LICU’s tuition rates at current scholarship discounts are only €513 for 9 undergraduate courses (which is €3,987-€8,097 less than the average) and €648 for 9 graduate courses (which is €4,452-€9,522 less than the average). Note: postage and thesis fees are not included in the course fees.

When drawing a more specific comparison to other schools in Europe, that offer Christian based studies on an apostolic non-governmental foundation, such as the Word of Life Bible Centre in Uppsala, Sweden (which is based on bible school level, not university level), we find that one term of studies (9 months) is being offered at a total of €1,380 (to be submitted in 4 instalments) – compared to LICU’s tuition fees of €513 for 9 courses, this makes a difference of €867.

United Kingdom

Comparing college fees for students in England, we read, “Many undergraduates in England pay up to £9,000 per annum (year) in tuition costs. Average is approximately £6,000 per annum. …

If you are not a citizen of the United Kingdom, you will likely pay more than those who are citizens. In some cases, international undergraduate students may pay up to and over £10,000 per annum” (www.studying-in-england.org/costs-of-attending-college-in-england).

When drawing a more specific comparison to other schools in Europe, that offer Christian based studies on an apostolic non-governmental foundation, such as the Kingdom Faith Training College, we find that three ten-week terms of studies is being offered at a total of 3x £825 (to be submitted at the beginning of each term) – compared to LICU’s tuition fees at current scholarship discount offers, £513 for 9 courses (not including postage and thesis fees), this makes a difference of £1,962. Note: residential students at the Kingdom Faith Training College pay 3x £1,900 to cover their studies and accommodation for these three terms (October–August).

United States

Another article, dealing with tuition fees in the United States says, “the projected cost of an elite college from 2018-2021 could soar as high as $334,000 (£257,770) for a four year degree.

The national average cost of attending a four-year public college is over $28,000 (£21,610) per year, and the average cost of attending a four-year private college is now over $59,000 (£45,535)” (www.forbes.com/sites/troyonink/2015/01/31/college-could-cost-as-much-as-334000-total-in-four-years/#46bd8757c86a).

Another comparison shows that students at ORU (Oral Roberts University) and Regent University for example are paying between $1,341–$1,700 (£1,035-£1,315) per 3-credit hour course. At Regent University the cost for one academic year can be $15,300 (£11,810) for undergraduate studies and between £12,000–$27,000 (£9,265-£20,840) for graduate and postgraduate studies (www.regent.edu, www.oru.edu).

Again, taking this comparison into the realm of Christian based studies on an apostolic non-governmental foundation, we find that tuition fees at the Morning Star University for example are placed at $5,950 (£4,600) for one academic year – compared to LICU’s international tuition fees for online courses of only £52 per course + £5 handling fee (at current scholarship discount rates, not including postage and thesis fees), this makes a difference of £4,087!

Nigeria

Referring to schools located in African nations, such as the Benson Idahosa University in Nigeria, we find that students studying for a degree in theology are expected to pay at between £700-£770 per year. Also all students must pay at least 60% of the sessional fees before registration (www.biu.edu.ng/en).

At LICU students living in Nigerian nations may pay as little as £24 per online course for undergraduate studies + £5 handling fee, which makes a difference of £439-£509 compared to the Benson Idahosa university.

Another school, founded on Christian values in Nigeria, Covenant University, is currently making headlines, as their annual fees for undergraduate studies are set at a minimum on 779.500 Naira (which equals £1,910) (http://admission.covenantuniversity.edu.ng/fees). Divided unto 9 months of study, this requires students to pay £212 per month. Remembering that LICU is charging students in nations like Nigeria only £24 per course for undergraduate studies + £5 handling fee. In terms of savings, this makes a difference of £1,649 for 9 courses of undergraduate studies!

Uganda / West Africa

Looking further afield at universities in Uganda, for example the Makere University, students for a Master in Religious & Theological Studies pay £520 (as national students) and £920 (as international students) for their course fees. All functional fees and 60% of tuition fees for new joining students must be paid before the admission letter is issued (mak.ac.ug).

Compared to LICU’s scholarship discounts for students living in Uganda, this makes a difference of £259-£659. Remembering that students are not required to pay their annual fees in advance, but may do so on a monthly basis.

Another educational institute that is offering theological studies on university level is the West Africa Advanced School of Theology (WAAST) Lomé Togo, currently offering studies for students in Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Niger, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo-Kinshasa, Gabon, and Madagascar. In order to complete a Bachelor degree, students pay £422 for one year of undergraduate studies (£606 including lodging) if they are part of the Assemblies of God. Non-Assemblies of God students pay £524 for undergraduate studies without lodging and £780 including lodging. These fees are quite comparable to LICU, based on the special scholarship discounts available for students living in these nations. (Note: If LICU students would pay the regular tuition rates, which are £152 per course + £5 handling fees, their annual tuition fee would be as much as £1,413).

In regards to the Master program at the WAAST institute, students need to cover 14 courses and a thesis, each course available at £105 (£125 including lodging) for those part of the Assemblies of God. Other students pay £138 per course (£158 including lodging). The thesis is not included in the tuition fees and needs to be covered by an additional payment of £40 (http://www.waast.org).

This makes a total of £1,510 for Master studies, compared to the £522-£737 applicable to LICU Master students (depending on program option). The difference being between £773-£988.

Furthermore students, who wish to complete their doctoral degree are encourage to further their studies with PAN-AFRICA Theological Seminary, where doctoral fees are estimated between $20-25,000 (£15,435-£19,295) with possible tuition discounts of $25/credit hour for AAGA members (http://www.pathseminary.org/content/2017-financial-information). LICU students living in African nations are currently expected to pay a total of £1,190 for a doctor of ministry program (including courses and dissertation) and for those who wish to continue for the Doctor of Philosophy program, there would be an additional year of study, available at £1,390. Compared to the Path Seminary, this makes a difference of at least £14,045.
